In our first shooting, we faced a lot of challenges, such as camera quality, poor composition, poor lighting and we had planned to overcome those with editing. Our editing was also not up to the mark, and our sound designer couldn't do a well job with sounds. We are now trying to figure out what to do; either reshoot or re edit the video. Reshooting would be the better option.
As the main editor, this department was mainly my job. I used multiple platforms to achieve the final cut that I wanted to. These platforms were used at different stages for different purposes. I used DaVinci Resolve 18 for compiling all the footage, with further feature of color grading and color correction with cinematic LUTs Secondly I used InShot, an application, for further editing like sound placements, voice over and sound effects Finally, CapCut is used for all the text editing in the video from initial titles to ending credits. Here is a time lapse of me editing. The setup:
Our teacher told us to reshoot our video and so we decided to make a few changes and improvements. Firstly, we improved the camera quality and this time recorded on 4K at 60 FPS. We also tried a variety of angles and movements that would make our footage more aesthetically appealing. We also used a new location for scene two and had to reorganize all the cinematography according to the new location. On day one, we recorded during golden hour so the lighting was great. We used the Boya MM1 to record the foley sounds and ambient sounds. The reshooting of the second scene was done on 19th February. We met at an empty but safe street near our school, around 9-10 am. We took some practice shots and rehearsals. Then we started the actual recording of the footage. I took mostly handheld shots, which surprisingly turned out very smooth and fine. We took a lot of tracking shots, spy shot, focus shift, close ups, OTS and different angles.
